United Nations / 71st session of the General Assembly / Ministerial week – Jean-Marc Ayrault's schedule (New York - September 23, 2016)

Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will take part in a meeting of the "Quartet" on the Middle East peace process today, organized by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

He will also take part in a meeting on Mali, which will be attended by President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and Ban Ki-moon, as well as a meeting on the Central African Republic, which will be attended by President Faustin-Archange Touadéra.

Jean-Marc Ayrault will also meet the French founders of the start-up firm Datadog, which specializes in the digital data sector. Lastly, he will also take part in a meeting on the "Fieldwork: Marfa" project, which focuses on cooperation between French and American schools in the cultural and artistic spheres.

Higher education – Delivery of the report by France Stratégie on France’s provision of higher education abroad (Paris - September 26, 2016)

Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, and Thierry Mandon, Minister of State for Higher Education and Research, will receive, on September 26, in the presence of Jean Pisani-Ferry, Commissioner-General of France Stratégie, a report on the development of French higher education.

This report, entitled "French higher education: beyond borders, the urgent need for a strategy," was produced under the auspices of France Stratégie and coordinated by Bernard Ramanantsoa, Honorary Director-General of HEC Paris. The report's recommendations will help develop a comprehensive strategy to enhance the appeal of French academic and scientific courses.

European Union – Matthias Fekl's participation in the informal meeting of foreign trade ministers (Bratislava - September 22-23, 2016)

Matthias Fekl, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the Promotion of Tourism and French Nationals Abroad, will take part in the informal meeting of EU foreign trade ministers in Bratislava from September 22 to 23.

The discussions will focus on the finalization of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between the EU and Canada, the status of the trade negotiations between the EU and the United States and the issues at stake in the other ongoing multilateral negotiations.

The participants will also discuss the reform of the trade defense instruments and changes in China's status with respect to the World Trade Organization.



Development – Signing of agreements between AFD and the EU (September 21, 2016)

The French Development Agency (AFD) has just signed five financing agreements with the EU totaling €75 million aimed at supporting emergency efforts to combat irregular migration and its causes, in accordance with the commitments made by France at the summit in Valletta in November 2015.

These programs include:

  • participatory development in Cameroon
  • human security and development in northern Mali
  • support for the agricultural sector in northern Niger
  • support for initiatives by the Malian diaspora
  • efforts to boost competitiveness and employment in Senegal.

The goal of these projects is to promote stability and security by addressing migration issues.
