European Union – Jean-Marc Ayrault's participation in the Foreign Affairs Council (Luxembourg - October 17, 2016)

Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development will take part in the Foreign Affairs Council on October 17.

The discussions will focus on the following points:

  • Syria: The ministers will have an in-depth discussion on the situation in Aleppo, where the regime and its allies are continuing their offensive. They will take stock of the most recent diplomatic developments and examine ways in which the EU can help achieve a cessation of hostilities, access for humanitarian assistance and a resumption of the negotiations for a political solution;
  • Tunisia: The EU will significantly increase its assistance, as we are doing on a bilateral basis. Jean-Marc Ayrault will call for mobilization in the run-up to the international conference in support of the economic, social and sustainable development of Tunisia which France will co-sponsor together with Qatar on November 29 and 30;
  • Comprehensive security and defense strategy: the ministers will prepare the decisions to be taken by the European Council in December, which will be aimed at setting out in practical terms in all areas the principle of strategic autonomy for the EU;
  • Migration: the discussions will focus on the implementation of the commitments made during the summit in Valetta and on the development of "migration pacts" with the five priority countries of Ethiopia, Niger, Nigeria, Mali and Senegal.

The investigation into the destruction of flight MH17 and the situation in the Democratic Republic will also be on the agenda.



Economic appeal / Agriculture – Launch of the International Food Exhibition by Jean-Marc Ayrault (Paris - October 16, 2016)

Jean-Marc Ayrault, together with Stéphane Le Foll, will host an event to launch the International Food Exhibition (SIAL) on October 16 at the ministry.

The International Food Exhibition, the largest food exhibition in the world, will take place in Paris from October 16 to 20 and will bring together 7,000 firms from 105 countries.

SIAL attracts almost 160,000 visitors every year. France will be the largest exhibitor in 2016, with the involvement of 1000 firms.



Tourism – Visit by Matthias Fekl to Macao and Shenzhen (October 15-16, 2016)

Matthias Fekl, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the Promotion of Tourism and French Nationals Abroad, will visit Macao and Shenzhen from October 15 to16.

In Macao, Matthias Fekl will represent France—the guest of honor country—at the 5th session of the Global Tourism Economy Forum. This forum, which has taken place every year since 2012 in Macao with the support of the Chinese authorities, the World Tourism Organization and the World Travel and Tourism Council, brings together the countries that are the most popular destinations for Chinese tourists and tourism stakeholders in China. The minister of state will meet with these stakeholders in order to promote France as a destination and French tourism expertise.

In Shenzhen, Matthias Fekl will take part in the ceremony to launch the memorandum of understanding between Paris Euronext and the Shenzhen Stock Exchange and will meet with the community of French entrepreneurs and investors in the French Tech Hub.



Mali – Attack against the Malian army

France condemns the attack which killed 4 members of the Malian armed forces in the area of Nampala.

We extend our condolences to the victims' families.

France assures Mali of its solidarity in the fight against terrorism and in its efforts to promote the peace and reconciliation process.



Myanmar/Burma – Situation in Rakhine State

France is closely monitoring the troubling situation in Rakhine State.

It calls on all parties to engage in dialogue in order to avoid any escalation.

It is especially important to protect the lives, homes and places of worship of the civilian populations.



Nigeria – Release of Chibok schoolgirls (October 13, 2016)

France welcomes the announcement by the Nigerian government of the release on October 13 of 21 schoolgirls kidnapped in Chibok by the terrorist group Boko Haram.

It pays tribute to the efforts of all actors and above all the Nigerian authorities, who worked to secure this release.

We reaffirm our support for Nigeria and its neighbors in the fight against terrorism and the efforts to ensure that all of the kidnapped girls are released as swiftly as possible.



Europe / Airbus – Delivery of the 10,000th aircraft

We applaud the delivery by Airbus of its 10,000th aircraft to Singapore Airlines on October 14.

Airbus delivered 462 aircraft to 72 clients between January and September 2016.

This reflects the success that epitomizes the European aerospace project and Europe's capacity to assert itself as a leading global player, notably in the industrial sector.
