Tourism / Local authorities – Meeting between Matthias Fekl and regional and departmental elected officials (Paris - October 19, 2016)

Matthias Fekl, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the Promotion of Tourism, and French Nationals Abroad, will receive, on October 19, together with Martine Pinville, Minister of State for Commerce, Small-Scale Industry, Consumer Affairs and the Social and Solidarity Economy, the elected officials responsible for tourism and the representatives of the areas most affected by the recent events.

This meeting builds on the emergency economic committee on tourism which Jean-Marc Ayrault convened on September 13. It also follows on from the report issued at the Council of Ministers meeting on October 19 on the number of tourists visiting France.

The discussions will focus on the main areas of cooperation between the government and the regions, as well as on the priority projects to be implemented thanks to the €10 million in exceptional funding announced by Jean-Marc Ayrault aimed at promoting France as a tourist destination around the world.

Economic appeal / Agriculture – Inauguration by Mathias Fekl of an event to promote the export of French charcuterie (Paris - October 19, 2016)

Matthias Fekl, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, the Promotion of Tourism, and French Nationals Abroad, will host an event dedicated to promoting the export of French charcuterie at the Quai d'Orsay, in collaboration with the French Federation of Prepared-Meat Industries and Prepared-Food Suppliers (FICT). This event will take place during the International Food Exhibition in Paris from October 16 to 20 and is supported by the "Club de la table française" [French dining club].

Mr. Fekl will reaffirm the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development's commitment to promoting French charcuterie products. This industry, which exemplifies the excellence of French regional products, accounts for €600 million in exports.

Syria / UN – Human Rights Council (October 21, 2016)

France supports the holding of a special session of the Human Rights Council to address the situation in Aleppo, to which it will actively contribute, in follow-up to its efforts at the Security Council to facilitate a cessation of hostilities in Aleppo and access for humanitarian assistance.

We reaffirm our determination to combat impunity in cases involving war crimes or crimes against humanity, regardless of the perpetrators

Yemen – Ceasefire

France supports the establishment of a 72-hour ceasefire due to take effect at midnight on October 19.

This is a critical first step toward restoring trust between the parties to the conflict. France calls on all actors to resume the negotiations. The only way to find a lasting solution to the crisis is through a political solution.

France reaffirms its full support for the efforts of Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, whom Jean-Marc Ayrault received in Paris on October 10.

United States – "A la Carte" French Food Festival (October 19 to 30, 2016)
