Harlem Désirís participation in the "Regions of France" seminar on the future Multiannual Financial Framework and the post-2020 Cohesion Policy (Strasbourg - October 26, 2016)

Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, will visit Strasbourg today to close the "Regions of France" seminar on the future Multiannual Financial Framework and the EU's post-2020 Cohesion Policy.

Cohesion Policy, which accounts for a third of the EU's budget, plays a key role in supporting investment in all regions. In France, €26 billion in funding from the European Structural and Investment Funds were allocated to our regions and to the consolidation of growth and job creation over the period 2014-2020.

Harlem Désir will reaffirm the government's commitment in support of this policy, while discussions are getting underway in Brussels on the future of the European budget. He will also stress the commitment of our regions, which have been entrusted with managing most of these European funds.

Portugal – Meeting between Harlem Désir and Margarida Ferreira Marques, Minister of State for European Affairs (Paris - October 26, 2016)

Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, will receive his Portuguese counterpart, Margarida Ferreira Marques, Minister of State for European Affairs, today.

This meeting will provide an opportunity to take stock of bilateral relations between France and Portugal.

The two ministers will also discuss current European issues, especially the implementation of the road map adopted at the summit in Bratislava on relaunching the European project, managing the migration crisis and European support for consolidating growth, investment and job creation.

Somalia / Djibouti – Attack against an AMISOM base (October 25, 2016)

France condemns the attack perpetrated by the terrorist group Al-Shabab on October 25 against a base belonging to the African Union Mission to Somalia (AMISOM) in the town of Beledweyne, which left several Djibouti soldiers dead.

We extend our condolences to the victims' families and the Djibouti authorities. The perpetrators of this attack must be brought to justice.

We pay tribute to the efforts of AMISOM and the Djibouti contingent to restore peace and security in Somalia. Together with our partners, we stand alongside the Somali government and the African Union in the fight against terrorism.

Development – "Development and Digital Africa Days" (October 26-28, 2016)

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development and the Ministry of the Economy, Industry and the Digital Sector will host the "Development and Digital Africa Days" from October 26 to 28 in Bercy.

This event is part of the efforts to implement the "Development and Digital Technology Plan" published in December 2015 aimed at strengthening the role of digital technology in our development assistance policy. This plan was drafted in collaboration with public and private stakeholders and associations and sets out the priority actions, notably with respect to strengthening the links between the French and African digital ecosystems.

This event will also provide an opportunity to present the Open Government Partnership Summit due to take place in France from December 7 to 9.

André Vallini, Minister of State for Development and Francophonie, will deliver a speech on the closing day of the event and will emphasize the role played by digital technology in development strategies, especially in Africa.
