Mali / Kidnapping of our compatriot Sophie Pétronin – Reminder of the spokesperson's statement (December 24, 2016)

The French authorities confirm that our compatriot Sophie Pétronin, who runs a nongovernmental organization that helps children suffering from malnutrition, was abducted on December 24 in Gao, Mali.

We are working actively with the Malian authorities to find and release our compatriot as quickly as possible. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development is in touch with her family.



Democratic Republic of Congo – Deadly attacks in North Kivu (December 24 and 25, 2016)

France condemns the attacks that killed nearly 40 people on December 24 and 25 in Beni and Rutshuru territories, in North Kivu.

We offer our condolences to the victims' families.

France reiterates its call for a resolute, coordinated action by the Congolese army and MONUSCO to protect the civilian population and restore security in the Kivus.
