Launching of a missile by North Korea (Reminder of the statement by the minister of foreign affairs and international development - February 12, 2017)

France condemns the launch of a missile by North Korea on February 12 in violation of the UN Security Council resolutions. It reaffirms its solidarity with its partners in the Asia-Pacific region, whose security is threatened by North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile program.

The international community must come together and take immediate action to prevent North Korea from having an operational nuclear arsenal. France is coordinating with all states concerned, especially the permanent members of the Security Council, as well as Japan and South Korea, in order to develop a firm and resolute response.

This response notably requires the strengthening of the implementation of Security Council resolutions 2270 and 2321 by all states and the adoption of new restrictive measures by the EU.

Spain – Meeting between Harlem Désir and his counterpart (Paris - February 13, 2017)

Harlem Désir, Minister of State of European Affairs, received his Spanish counterpart, Jorge Toledo Albiñana, today.

The discussions focused on preparations for the next bilateral summit scheduled to take place on February 20 in Malaga, in which President Hollande and several members of the government will take part, at the invitation of Spanish President Mariano Rajoy.

The two ministers of state also discussed the future of the EU and other current European and international issues.

Iraq – Violence in Baghdad (February 11, 2017)

France condemns the violence perpetrated yesterday on the sidelines of the demonstrations on February 11 in Baghdad, which left several people dead and scores of others injured. We extend our condolences to the victims' families and wish the injured a speedy recovery.

France also condemns the rocket attacks carried out against Baghdad's Green Zone on the same day. In this respect, we hope that the investigation being conducted by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi will shed full light on these two incidents.

France calls on the Iraqi government - to whom we reaffirm our full support - to continue to implement the reforms needed to ensure national reconciliation and promote stability in Iraq. While Iraq is engaged in the battle for Mosul, which could represent a turning point in the fight against Daesh, unity among the Iraqi people is critical.
