Tourism – Jean-Marc Ayrault's participation in the "Tourism and Security" meetings (Paris - March 23, 2017)

Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will take part, together with Matthias Fekl, Minister of the Interior, in the "Tourism and Security" meetings at the Hotel Beauvau on March 23. The meetings will bring together tourism professionals, stakeholders in the security sector, locally elected officials and private partners.

These meetings represent a new stage in the national plan to boost tourism launched on November 7, 2016, by the government following the meeting of the Interministerial Tourism Committee. They will provide an opportunity to present the "Tourism and Security Program" which will be implemented before the upcoming summer season under the auspices of the Ministry of the Interior. Jean-Marc Ayrault visited Biarritz and Bayonne on February 10, accompanied by the prefect of the region, Étienne Guépratte, Coordinator of the "Tourism and Security Program" in order to take stock of the issues facing this sector.



Switzerland – Meeting between Jean-Marc Ayrault and his counterpart Didier Burkhalter (Paris - March 23, 2017)

Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will meet with his Swiss counterpart, Didier Burkhalter, on March 23.

The discussions will focus on current international and European issues as well as our bilateral relations.

An intergovernmental agreement on Basel-Mulhouse Airport will be signed on this occasion.



What are the prospects for French diplomacy? – Exchanges with Jean-Marc Ayrault (March 23, 2017)

Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will deliver a speech at the Quai d'Orsay on March 23 at 5:30 pm, in which he will present the major challenges arising from the international situation and his views on how to address them.

This approximately 30-minute speech, which will be open to the public, will be followed by questions from the audience.

European Union – 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome (March 25, 2017)

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Treaties of Rome, the Quai d'Orsay will host a participatory dialogue on the theme of "60 years old already... and tomorrow?" on March 25.

Jean-Marc Ayrault, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Development, will be available to respond to questions from the public, alongside Pierre Moscovici, European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs, and Anne-Marie Autissier, a cultural and media sociologist and Head of the Institute of European Studies at the Université Paris 8. This event is being organized by the "Mouvement associative" and the "Eurocitoyens" platform, with the support of the European Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development.

During this week of celebrations, Harlem Désir, Minister of State for European Affairs, will also take part in numerous events, many of them organized by civil society. After taking part in the Etats généraux de l'Europe [general forum where the EU is debated] in Lille on March 18, he travelled to Rome on March 21 to take part in an international conference entitled "In search of a new Europe: thoughts and perspectives," alongside former President of the European Parliament Enrique Barón, Italian Undersecretary for European Affairs Sandro Gozi, and German Minister of State for Europe Michael Roth. In Paris, Harlem Désir will speak at the Maison de l'Europe during a panel debate on March 22.

On this occasion, the facade of the Quai d'Orsay will be partially illuminated and feature animated displays on Friday March 24 and Saturday, March 25, from 7:30 pm to midnight.

Poland – Meeting between Harlem Désir and a parliamentary delegation (Paris - March 22, 2017)

Today Minister of State for European Affairs Harlem Désir is welcoming a delegation of Polish parliamentarians led by Marek Rocki, chairman of the Senate's committee on foreign affairs and the European Union.

Their talks will cover European issues and bilateral relations.



Civil society – Launch of Moteur! competition (Quai d'Orsay - March 23, 2017)

To mark the opening of the Civil Society Ministry, on March 23 we are welcoming the Moteur! association, which will be launching its competition of the same name.

This initiative invites young people aged 14 to 22 to honor people they admire by making a short video about them.

Conducted in partnership with the diversity watchdog of the Conseil Supérieur de l'Audiovisuel, the association thereby wishes to promote discussion and transmit values from one generation to the next, and to honor our nation's social diversity.

The Moteur! association was established in 2015 to promote equal opportunity for young people. It aims to provide support for young people in their professional choices.



French influence in the world of research – Awarding of 2017 Abel Prize to Yves Meyer (March 21, 2017)

On March 21, the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters awarded its 2017 Abel Prize to Yves Meyer in recognition of his work on the mathematical theory of wavelets. An alumnus of the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Paris-Saclay, Yves Meyer is the fourth French winner of the Abel Prize, awarded annually since 2003. King Harald V will bestow the prize upon him in Oslo on May 23.

Yves Meyer's work has had applications in numerous areas including medical imaging and digital filmmaking, demonstrating that work in mathematics can generate concrete innovations.

This prestigious award honors France and the French scientific community as a whole.
