Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia – Referendum of September 30, 2018

Voters in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia went to the polls to vote in a referendum on the country's name and future. France notes with satisfaction the smooth conduct of the ballot and welcomes the fact that the vast majority of voters expressed their support for the Prespa agreement and their country's rapprochement with the Atlantic Alliance and the European Union.

It is now up to Parliament to rule on the constitutional amendments aimed at implementing the agreement, based on the results of the referendum.

As President Macron reaffirmed, the Prespa agreement is good for the country, for the region and for Europe.

Luigi Di Maio said this morning that he has no doubt that Emmanuel Macron and Angela Merkel want the Italian government to fall. What is your response to these statements?

France respects the democratic choices of the Italian people and wants to fully cooperate with the Italian government led by Giuseppe Conte, within the framework of the friendship and the close historical ties between our two countries, which are founder members of the European Union.
