Nicaragua – Expulsion of experts working for the investigation mechanisms of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (December 19, 2018)

France regrets the decision by the Nicaraguan government to expel from its country experts from the two investigation mechanisms established by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights in July, namely the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts tasked with supporting the Nicaraguan authorities in their investigations into the acts of violence that have occurred in the country since the start of the crisis in April and the Special Monitoring Mechanism for Nicaragua tasked with following up on the recommendations of the report issued by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

These regional mechanisms, which France has supported since their creation, had been agreed upon by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the Nicaraguan government.

France calls on the Nicaraguan authorities to reconsider their decision and to find a peaceful solution to the crisis through the implementation of national dialogue involving all stakeholders in Nicaraguan society.
