Canada – Meeting between Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne and Robert Gauvin, Deputy Premier of New Brunswick (Paris - February 14, 2019)

Jean-Baptiste Lemoyne, Minister of State attached to the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, will meet with Robert Gauvin, New Brunswick's Deputy Premier and Minister of Tourism, Heritage and Culture, responsible for La Francophonie, on February 14.

This initial discussion with a member of New Brunswick's new government will focus on strengthening our cooperation with the province and on strengthening our dialogue within the International Organization of La Francophonie.

The meeting will also provide an opportunity to confirm the vitality of the ties between France and the French-speaking communities of Canada.

Cameroon

Cameroonian opposition leader Maurice Kamto has been charged with rebellion and insurrection more than two weeks after his arrest on January 28. You claimed at the time that you were monitoring his situation. What is your response now?

We are concerned at this legal development and are continuing to follow the situation of Mr. Kamto and that of approximately 200 of his supporters who are being held in detention.

The Cameroonian opposition, of which Mr. Kamto is a leading figure, must be able to freely express its opinions, in accordance with the law.
