France welcomes the smooth conduct of the presidential election in Mauritania on June 22, which took place in a calm climate.

It was pleased to note a high participation rate among the Mauritanian people on this historic democratic occasion.

It congratulates Mohamed Ould Sheikh Mohamed Ahmed El Ghazouani, the candidate who was elected according to the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

France has an excellent relationship with Mauritania, based on shared goals with respect to regional security, economic development and social justice benefiting all Mauritanians.

It is ready to work closely with the new authorities to further strengthen the ties between our two nations.

Chechnya / Russian Federation

What is your opinion concerning Sunday's attack near the residence of Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, for which the jihadist organization Islamic State claimed credit?

France condemns the attack carried out on June 23 in Chechnya.

We express our support for the victims of that attack and assure the Russian Federation of our solidarity in the fight against terrorism.
