The Daily Press Briefing

Statements made by
the Ministry for Europe
and Foreign Affairs

Paris - September 5, 2019
In this issue:

◢  Iran

◢  Sudan

Do you think that President Rouhani's announcement that Teheran would develop new centrifuges undermines your efforts to bring Iran back into the nuclear agreement and to reduce tensions in the region?

As you know, France has made efforts to de-escalate tensions. As the minister reiterated, the door is open. Obviously, no further JCPoA violations and a return to full compliance with the agreement are the central goals in this process. In these circumstances, Iran must refrain from taking any concrete action that is not in keeping with its commitments and is likely to undermine de-escalation efforts. That is the framework in which we will examine the concrete ramifications of this announcement, together with our partners and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

What is the objective of the minister's visit to Sudan?

Any visit by the minister to that country will be announced in due time. We are encouraged by recent developments in Sudan, with the appointment of the new Prime Minister, Abdalla Hamdok, and the upcoming announcement of a civilian government.
