Guinea Bissau (March 4, 2020)

France shares the serious concerns expressed on March 1 about the situation in Guinea Bissau by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), whose critical role it commends.

France urges Guinea Bissau's defense and security forces to distance themselves from politics and calls on all stakeholders to exercise restraint and to ensure respect for the legal and institutional framework in order to resolve the electoral dispute.

United Nations – Resignation of Ghassan Salamé (March 2, 2020)

France noted with regret the announcement of the resignation of Ghassan Salamé, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Libya. Ghassan Salamé has carried out his mission with competence and conviction since June 2017. We commend his efforts to promote a ceasefire and the launch of inter-Libyan dialogue under UN auspices.

France hopes that this momentum can be maintained and calls on all stakeholders to commit to a lasting ceasefire, improved control of resources and a representative and inclusive political dialogue.

France reaffirms its full support for the efforts of the UN secretary-general to this end.
