Japan – Conversation between Catherine Colonna and her counterpart (August 8, 2022)

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna spoke yesterday by telephone with Japanese Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi.

The ministers expressed their deep concern over the large-scale military exercises that China has been conducting around Taiwan for several days, and especially over the launch of ballistic missiles, five of which landed in Japan's exclusive economic zone. The minister expressed France's full solidarity with Japan in this situation.

The two ministers emphasized the dangerous nature of these actions and the need to avoid any kind of escalation that raises tensions in the region.

The minister reaffirmed France's commitment to preserving peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait in keeping with our unwavering "One China" policy.

Chad – France welcomes the signing of a peace agreement between Chad's government and 43 political groups and armed factions (August 8, 2022)

France welcomes today's signing of a historic peace agreement in Doha between Chad's transitional authorities and 43 Chadian political and military groups.

France hails the efforts of Qatar, which has worked relentlessly over the past five months to broker this agreement.

The Doha agreement is a major step toward the inclusive national dialogue that will soon begin in N'Djamena and will include all of the country's political and social forces.

France expresses its readiness to join with all of its international partners to continue providing support for the transition process and inter-Chad dialogue, with the aim of ensuring peace and stability in that country.
