President Macron spoke to Ms. Liz Truss, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, in New York today, Tuesday, September 20, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The President said how moved he felt during Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral and thanked the Prime Minister and the whole of the United Kingdom for the service.

The two leaders expressed their wish for close coordination between France and the United Kingdom in the international arena. They took stock of the situation in Ukraine, particularly around the Zaporizhzhia power plant. They agreed to remain in contact to step up their support for Ukraine at the military, humanitarian and economic levels, and best meet the needs expressed by Kyiv.

They also talked about the consequences of the Russian aggression on global energy security. The two leaders expressed their wish for a coordinated, mutually supportive approach between France and the United Kingdom.

Finally, they discussed the next stages for deepening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
