Turkey’s foreign minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, called Bernard Kouchner today to inform him of the agreement reached by Turkey and Armenia on the resumption of negotiations with a view to establishing diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Bernard Kouchner assured his Turkish counterpart of France’s great interest in this progress toward normalizing Turkish-Armenian bilateral relations. It is an important step for the region and beyond. He emphasized that the prospects for normalization between two nations whose relations were painfully scarred by history helps show the world that reconciliation can come through openness, dialogue, and respect for others.
