Afghanistan: death of a French Soldier
Paris, September 4, 2009
I was deeply saddened to learn of the death of a French soldier in Afghanistan today. Along with the 3rd Naval Infantry Regiment of Vannes, he was securing a convoy north of Bagram.
During the operation, French troops were the victims of an improvised explosive device. A French soldier was fatally injured. Several of his comrades were wounded, some seriously.
I share the sorrow of the victim’s family and loved ones. I would like to offer them my wholehearted condolences and deep solidarity in this difficult time. To those who were wounded, I extend my wishes for a speedy recovery, and my thoughts go out to their families. My thoughts also go out to the members of the 3rd Naval Infantry Regiment of Vannes, who have recently undergone such a difficult ordeal.
