Visit to Afghanistan by François Fillon, Prime Minister
Prime Minister François Fillon arrived this morning in Kabul for a visit to Afghanistan.
Immediately on his arrival, the Prime Minister paid tribute to the soldier from the Chambéry 13th Chasseurs Alpins [mountain light infantry] battalion, Enguerrand Libaert, killed in an operation on 9 February.
He was then scheduled to go to the presidential palace for a meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
He will then meet General Stanley McChrystal, Commander of NATO’s International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and United States forces in Afghanistan, at the ISAF command post.
The second part of the day will be devoted to visiting several sites where French soldiers are operating, engaged particularly on reconstruction tasks to help the Afghan people./.
