Visit to France by the President of Israel, Shimon Peres – Statement by the Foreign and European Affairs Ministry Spokesman

Paris, April 13, 2010

Shimon Peres, President of the State of Israel, will be received in Paris from 13 to 16 April. He will have meetings with President Sarkozy, the Prime Minister, President of the Senate and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, Bernard Kouchner.

Shimon Peres, a man of peace, architect of the Oslo Accords, and 1994 Nobel Peace Prizewinner together with Yasser Arafat and Yitzhak Rabin, is a great friend of France. This visit will be an opportunity for us to reaffirm to him our country’s friendship and our unfailing commitment to the security of the State of Israel as well as our desire for a swift resumption of the peace process.

During his visit President Peres, together with the Mayor of Paris, will unveil the David Ben-Gurion Promenade. He will take part in several events: an evening organized by the Pasteur-Weizmann Council for the fight against cancer initiated by Simone Veil almost 30 years ago, and the launch, at the Elysée Palace, of the “Europe-Israel House”, an initiative of the France-Israel Foundation which aims to bring together all components of European and Israeli societies, in a spirit of dialogue and exchange./.
