European Union Open House

Published on April 19, 2010

Following last year’s success with almost 50,000 visitors, the embassies of the 27 E.U. member states and the Delegation of the European Commission in Washington will open their doors to the public and invite you to enjoy the diversity and richness of European cultures on Saturday, May 8, 2010 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

No registration is necessary for the open house, but please bring identification; all embassies will conduct security checks. Avoid bringing large bags and backpacks. Photography is prohibited at some locations.

Free shuttle buses with two routes will drop visitors off at various embassies. This year, the E.U. is highlighting the theme Green Europe: Good for the Economy and the Environment. We want to show, through our own experience, that it is possible to tackle climate change, grow a clean energy economy of the future and become world leaders in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20% by 2020. Our policies have improved E.U. energy security and have created new green jobs while fulfilling our social and environmental responsibility. For more information, please visit:

At the Embassy of France you will have the opportunity to meet members of each department (diplomatic, commercial, cultural, scientific, military, transportation, air and space technologies, etc.) There will be two film screenings for children: “La citadelle assiégée / The Besieged Fortress” at 11 a.m. and “Le renard et l’enfant / The Fox and the Child” at 2 p.m. (more info available at -> Special Events -> E.U. Annual Open House) Also, take a break and enjoy lunch at the Embassy of France! Sit down to a full meal at the embassy’s cafeteria (menu below). Seating is limited so please reserve your tickets now! Lunch will include an appetizer, main course with side dishes, and a delicious dessert from our own in-house pastry chef (beer and wine by the glass or bottle additional charge).

Enjoy a taste of France… right here in Washington DC!
