Russia/French aid in the wake of the wildfires – Communiqué issued by the Prime Minister

Paris, August 8, 2010

François Fillon, Prime Minister, has telephoned Vladimir Putin, his Russian opposite number.

He reaffirmed to him France’s solidarity in the ordeal today suffered by the Russian people, confronted by terrible fires.

Following the request expressed by the Russian Ministry for Emergency Situations, he informed him of a proposal for human and material support in managing the crisis.

France has proposed sending Russia:

- three experts specializing in the management of this type of crisis:

- a detachment of 120 men, 37 vehicles and a 5 man command team (fire-fighters and rescue workers);

- material resources, including a Bombardier water bomber and 15 motor pumps./.
