Telephone conversation between Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the Republic, and Mohammed Hosni Mubarak, President of Egypt – Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic

President Sarkozy spoke on the telephone this evening to Mr Mohammed Hosni Mubarak, President of Egypt.

The Head of State informed President Mubarak about his talks on Monday, 27 September with the President of the Palestinian Authority during Mr Mahmoud Abbas’ visit to Paris and his telephone conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.

President Sarkozy set out to the Egyptian President his proposals for relaunching and backing the Israeli-Palestinian peace process through a mechanism to support the direct negotiations. He also spoke about his desire to have a meeting in Paris with President Mubarak, Co-President of the Union for the Mediterranean, to prepare the Barcelona summit, to which the Israeli Prime Minister and President of the Palestinian Authority would be invited.

President Sarkozy agreed to stay in touch with President Mubarak in order to ensure close cooperation on these proposals./.
