Nigeria/bomb attack in Abuja

Statement by Bernard Kouchner, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs

Paris, October 1, 2010

I utterly condemn today’s double bomb attack in Abuja which, according to the latest report, killed 8 people and injured over 50 others, 3 of whom seriously.

As Nigeria today celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of her independence, the terrorists wanted, through this heinous act, to cast a shadow over a commemoration of great importance to all Nigerians.

In these painful circumstances, France extends her condolences to the Nigerian government and people, and the victims’ families and close friends.

France stands alongside Nigeria in her fight against terrorism./.
