Afghanistan – Death of a French soldier

Paris, October 15, 2010

President Sarkozy was extremely sad to learn of the death this morning of a French NCO from the Brive 126th Infantry Regiment during an operation in the Uzbeen Valley. Seriously wounded yesterday in a firefight, he was taken to Kabul hospital where he died from his injuries.

Another of his comrades was wounded during the same operation.
This soldier paid with his life for France’s commitment to help bring peace and security to the Afghan people.

President Sarkozy expresses his most sincere condolences to the bereaved and shares their pain.

His thoughts also go to his wounded comrade-in-arms, whom he wishes a speedy recovery.

The Head of State reaffirms his support for the Afghan people and authorities. He expresses France’s determination to continue working within the International Security Assistance Force. This UN-mandated force has been assigned the mission of contributing to the re-establishment of stability, restoration of peace and to development in Afghanistan./.
