Côte d’Ivoire elections
Paris, December 1, 2010
By turning out in very large numbers for the second round of the presidential elections on 28 November, Ivorians have once again shown their attachment to democracy and their wish for Côte d’Ivoire to find lasting peace, stability and prosperity.
The electoral process must now be concluded transparently, calmly and without hindrance. The will of the Ivorian people must be fully respected. It is essential that the Independent Electoral Commission should announce the results within the planned timescale – that is, before this evening.
The President of the Republic calls on all the Ivorian parties to cooperate with the Commission so that it may accomplish its mandate without delay.
The head of State fully supports the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative in Côte d’Ivoire, Mr. Choi Young-Jin, who is responsible for certifying the electoral process in accordance with the Security Council resolutions.
