Paris, December 29 2010
It’s a year since our compatriots Hervé Ghesquière and Stéphane Taponier, journalists from France 3, were taken hostage in Afghanistan. I share the anxiety of their families and close friends as they wait.
I’m keen to assure them that, both in Paris and on the ground in Afghanistan, all the State’s services are fully mobilized and doing everything possible to ensure that our two fellow countrymen, as well as the Afghans accompanying them, regain their freedom.
The release of all our compatriots who are held hostage is an absolute priority for President Sarkozy and the whole government. The efforts undertaken by France to that end will continue without respite./.
