Paris, January 25, 2011

Following the award of the tender for building amphibious assault ships [LHDs or BPCs (bâtiments de projection et de commandement as they are known in French)] for the Russian navy to the consortium made up of the French companies DCNS and STX and the Russian public company – announced on 24 December 2010 – Mr Igor Sechin, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia, and M. Alain Juppé, Ministre d’Etat, Minister of Defence of the French Republic, have signed in Saint-Nazaire, in the presence of President Sarkozy, an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation on the BPC’s construction.

The two countries’ governments agree to fully support the building of two BPCs in France and two in Russia.

This project is the most important ever carried out by Russia and a Western country in this field. It will guarantee a very large number of jobs for the Russian and French companies and open up new prospects for cooperation between France and Russia./.
