Egypt/protests

Published on January 31, 2011
Statement by Michèle Alliot-Marie, Ministre d’Etat, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs

Paris, January 28, 2011

France expresses her deep concern over the demonstrations which have rocked Egypt for the past few days and gained new strength on Friday.

She deplores the casualties and calls for restraint.

Only a dialogue among all the parties can lead to a significant, positive change in the situation that takes into account the aspirations for greater freedom and democracy being expressed. It is up to the Egyptian authorities to find the appropriate means to satisfy them.

France, a friend of Egypt and the Egyptians, calls for calm and for everyone to demonstrate a responsible attitude./.
