Paris, March 11, 2011
I had a telephone conversation this morning with my Moroccan counterpart, Taieb Fassi Fihri – whom I’ll also be having the pleasure of receiving in Paris before the end of the month – to discuss at greater length our many subjects of shared interest.
I welcomed the clear-sighted, brave and visionary speech delivered by King Mohammed VI. This is an historic turning-point for Morocco. The speech opens up the prospect of calm, peaceful democratization for Morocco and her own model; these can be a source of inspiration for the region.
I expressed France’s full confidence in the determination of the Moroccan people and authorities to bring to fruition the profound and ambitious reforms announced.
Finally, I emphasized France’s determination and readiness to support Morocco in this new phase, bilaterally but also as part of the European Union./.
