Bomb attack in Pakistan

Statement by Alain Juppé, Ministre d’Etat, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs

Paris, May 13, 2011

France utterly condemns today’s bomb attack in Shabqadar, north-west Pakistan, which targeted cadets from a Frontier Constabulary training centre and, according to the latest report, is thought to have killed 80 people and injured over 140 others.

This despicable and particularly heinous attack, for which the Taliban Movement of Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility, was targeting young recruits who had chosen to serve their country.

In these tragic circumstances, France extends her condolences to the bereaved and assures the Pakistani people of her solidarity.

As President Sarkozy reminded Prime Minister Gilani during his recent visit to Paris, France will continue to support the Pakistani government and people in their battle against terrorism./.
