Syria/crackdown
Paris, June 12, 2011
France strongly condemns the continued and increasingly brutal crackdown in Syria, including the use of heavy weapons, as in Jisr al-Shughour, where many civilians are fleeing from the crackdown by seeking refuge in Turkey.
This unacceptable situation, which is further increasing the civilian death toll in Syria, is creating a threat to regional stability. It must stop.
The Syrian authorities must allow immediate and unconditional access to the ICRC and other humanitarian agencies.
France is continuing to work with her partners in the international community to ensure the United Nations Security Council shoulders its responsibilities by immediately speaking out on the Syrian crisis and its regional implications./.
