President Sarkozy was very shocked to learn this afternoon of the death of a 1st-Class parachute chasseur from the 1st Parachute Chasseur Regiment (Pamiers). During an operation in Kapisa, while he was carrying out a reconnaissance mission on foot, he was fatally wounded by fire from insurgents.

President Sarkozy extends his most sincere condolences to the family and close friends of the soldier killed in action and shares their grief.

The Head of State reaffirms his support for the Afghan people and authorities. He expresses France’s determination to go on working within the International Security Assistance Force. This UN-mandated force has been assigned the mission of contributing to the re-establishment of stability, restoration of peace and to development in Afghanistan./.
