The Duke Ellington School of the Arts Show choir in France
The Embassy of France in the United States is pleased to announce that the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Show Choir is leaving for a tour in France and Monaco on Saturday, July 2nd 2011.
These amazing talented kids who perform for President Obama and the First Lady are going to thrill audiences in Paris, Cognac, Orange, Sylvanès, Monaco and Beaune in what, for most, will be their first trip outside the United States!
About the Tour in France and Monaco

About the Duke Ellington School of the Arts
The Duke Ellington School of the Arts is a DC Public School that is nationally renowned for its ability to take everyday urban kids with talent and turn them into both academic and artistic successes. Founded in 1974, the school is the only DC public high school that provides pre-professional arts training and college preparation to more than 500 talented area students. With a mission to “nurture and inspire passion for arts and learning in talented students who might not otherwise have an opportunity to develop their artistic skills,” the Duke Ellington School of the Arts over the past thirty-five years has continued to maintain a 98% graduation rate with 95% of its seniors being accepted into colleges, universities and conservatories.
About the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Show Choir
Founded in 1986, the highly acclaimed and national award winning Duke Ellington School of the Arts Show Choir has performed several times for the President and First Lady of the United States at the White House including at the lighting of the National Christmas tree this past December.
The Show Choir’s repertoire covers a wide range of musical genres including jazz, spirituals, gospel, Broadway, classical, R & B and Motown. Their electrifying and professional stage presence has garnered invitations to perform at many impressive venues such as the John F. Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall and all across the United States and in China, Europe and the Caribbean. They have performed with Stevie Wonder, Earth, Wind and Fire, Patti La Belle, Boyz II Men, Anita Baker, Maroon 5 and Denyce Graves.
