Prime Minister François Fillon welcomed Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, to the Hôtel de Matignon on Friday, 8 July for a working lunch.
Their meeting was devoted chiefly to economic and European issues, with particular emphasis on growth, employment, control of public finances and the importance of a stable, strong Euro Area.
The Prime Minister and Nick Clegg welcomed France and the UK’s convergence of views on the European Union’s future multi-annual budget. Among other things, they accorded great importance to the goal of stabilizing European spending.
The Prime Minister and British Deputy Prime Minister also discussed the strengthening of our defence cooperation, launched at the France-UK summit of 2 November 2010, particularly given the engagement of our two countries in Afghanistan and Libya./.
