France/US/Afghanistan/death of American soldiers
Paris, August 6, 2011
Mr. President, Dear Barack,
It was with great distress and deep sadness that I learned of the death in combat of 31 U.S. troops on August 6 in Wardak province, Afghanistan.
In these painful moments, I want to offer you, and through you, the American people as a whole, my personal sympathy and that of the French people. Please assure the families and loved ones of these soldiers fallen on the field of honor of my sincere condolences and of France’s solidarity.
I know that this new ordeal will not weaken the United States’ determination to continue its battle alongside the Afghan people so that they may in the long term enjoy the stability and freedom to which they aspire.
Rest assured that the resolve of France, which has been engaged in the same battle alongside the United States for nearly 10 years, will not falter.
Mr. Barack Obama
President of the United States of America
