High-Speed Rail Celebrates 30 Years / New Rhin-Rhône Line

Published on September 8, 2011

To mark the occasion of 30 years of France’s world leadership in high-speed rail innovation, President Sarkozy and cabinet ministers inaugurated a new line through eastern France on September 8. The service, which runs between the Rhin and Rhône regions, marks France’s continued commitment to cutting-edge solutions to sustainable development, mobility and inter-connectedness among citizens of France and Europe more broadly.

The President traveled through the Côte d’Or, Jura, Doubs, Haute-Saône and Belfort provinces. Stopping first in Besançon, he celebrated the event with rail workers and businesses associated with the construction of the new line. A second stop at the Belfort-Montbéliard station allowed him to make a speech on France’s future rail policy.
