Meeting between Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the Republic, and Abdou Diouf, Secretary-General of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, and Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth – Communiqué issued by the Presidency of the Republic

Paris, October 5, 2011

President Sarkozy had a meeting this afternoon with Abdou Diouf, Secretary-General of the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie [OIF – international Francophone organization] and Kamalesh Sharma, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.

On the eve of the Cannes summit, Messrs Diouf and Sharma submitted to President Sarkozy the OIF and Commonwealth’s recommendations for the G20.

President Sarkozy undertook to inform the G20 countries of the joint OIF-Commonwealth appeal for innovative financing mechanisms – for the development of the Least Developed Countries – to be adopted at the Cannes summit.

President Sarkozy congratulated both Secretaries-General on their joint work, which bears witness to the closer ties between these two organizations, representing over 100 countries. President Sarkozy would also like the OIF and Commonwealth’s annual meetings with the G20 presidency to continue to take place./.
