Statements by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs Spokesman (excerpts)

Paris, October 11, 2011

Meeting between M. Jean Leonetti and his British counterpart, Mr David Lidington (11 October)

M. Jean Leonetti will meet his British counterpart, Mr David Lidington, for a working dinner this evening. This new meeting – which follows M. Leonetti’s visit to London in July – illustrates the steadfastness of Franco-British work on several subjects of common interest.

The two ministers will discuss preparations for the bilateral France-UK summit in December, particularly on defence and energy issues. They will also reiterate the importance of a sustainable and comprehensive response to the economic crisis through the development of Euro Area governance.

In the run-up to the next European Council, the ministers will also discuss ways of boosting growth in Europe, particularly through the deepening of the internal market, the revamping of industrial policy and an ambitious external dimension enabling us to uphold fair competition in international trade.

The continuation of work on the Financial Perspectives 2014-2020 and the articulation of the European Union’s position to international organizations will also be discussed. (…)./.
