Death of Marie Dedieu
Paris, October 19, 2011
The contacts through whom the French government was seeking to secure the release of Marie Dedieu, held in Somalia since 1 October, have announced to us her death; we have been unable to ascertain the date or circumstances of it.
Unfortunately we fear that this tragic outcome is the most likely one, in view of Mme Dedieu’s state of health, the uncertainty about the conditions of her detention and the fact that the kidnappers probably refused to give her the medicines we sent her.
We have passed on this information to the victim’s family and close friends.
The French government expresses its deep shock, great sadness and feelings of solidarity with Marie Dedieu’s family and friends. It also expresses its outrage at the total lack of humanity and the cruelty shown by the kidnappers of our compatriot; we want them to be identified and brought to justice.
We demand the immediate and unconditional handover of our compatriot’s body./.
