Saudi Arabia/death of His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud – Letter of condolence from Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the Republic, to His Majesty Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud, King of Saudi Arabia

Paris, October 22, 2011

I am extremely saddened to learn of the death of Your brother, His Royal Highness Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz al-Saud, Crown Prince and Minister of Defence and Civil Aviation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

At this time of mourning, I personally, and on behalf of the French people, express my most heartfelt condolences to You and the whole Saudi nation.

Under Your Majesty’s leadership, Prince Sultan played a crucial role in the modernization of Saudi Arabia, particularly in the defence sphere. His death is a great loss for Your country.

HRH Prince Sultan forged ties of trust and friendship with France and gave our partnership, to which I am particularly committed, a new dimension. With his death, France loses a loyal, sincere friend.

Once again, I express my very heartfelt condolences to Your Majesty.
