France welcomes the agreement signed in Geneva yesterday between Georgia and Russia, which paves the way to Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organization at its Ministerial Conference from 15 to 17 December.
We pay tribute to the efforts made by the Swiss mediators and to the compromises agreed by both parties.
This accession, following more than 18 years of negotiations, will make it possible to incorporate Russia into the multilateral trade system and thus consolidate economic and trade relations between Russia and her major partners, including the European Union. It should also enable the new EU-Russia agreement to be concluded.
