Afghanistan/death of a French soldier

President Sarkozy was extremely sad to learn of the death this morning of a legionnaire from the Saint-Christol 2nd Foreign Engineer Regiment in Afghanistan. He was shot by an insurgent and fatally wounded during a mission to protect a logistics convoy for the Afghan National Army, in Kapisa.

President Sarkozy extends his most sincere condolences to the bereaved and shares their pain.

Another soldier was also wounded in the attack. President Sarkozy wishes him a speedy recovery.

The Head of State once again expresses France’s determination to continue working within the International Security Assistance Force in order to restore peace and re-establish stability in that country and contribute to its development./.
