Paris, November 21 , 2011
President Sarkozy today received a delegation from the European Round Table of Industrialists (ERT) forum of 45 European industrial firms, for a working meeting at the Elysée Palace.
During the meeting the industrialists presented the ERT’s work.
They reaffirmed their commitment to the integrity and stability of the Euro Area, an essential factor of growth, competitiveness and job creation for European industry. President Sarkozy welcomed the support of the industrialists for Euro Area member states’ efforts to achieve this goal.
ERT representatives stressed the need to implement European policies which support industry and are based in particular on innovation, training and making industry more competitive. For this reason they welcomed the measures taken in France to stimulate innovation, especially the credit d’impôt recherche [R&D tax credit].
As regards energy policy and the fight against climate change, the ERT delegation emphasized that Europe had to preserve a balance between the three pillars of security of supply, competitive energy supplies and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. President Sarkozy indicated his determination to preserve France’s energy mix, which allows the necessary balance between these three requirements to be maintained./.
