Yesterday, the Minister responsible for European Affairs, M. Jean Leonetti, received Mr David Lidington, British Minister of State responsible for Europe and NATO. M. Leonetti thanked his interlocutor for the United Kingdom’s messages of sympathy for those murdered in Toulouse and Montauban and for their loved ones.
During their meeting, the ministers discussed, among other matters, the proposal put forward by the European Commission and supported by France for the EU to have its own instrument to ensure improved reciprocity in by European companies’ access to public procurement markets in third countries.
The ministers also discussed the negotiations on the future EU Multiannual Financial Framework, the plans to reform the European Court of Human Rights, the situation in the Balkans and progress on EU membership applications by several states in the region.
Lastly, they addressed the issues associated with the enforcement of the Schengen Area regulations and the operation of the cross-Channel link, in the run-up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London this summer./.
