France is extremely concerned about the ongoing fighting on the border between Sudan and South Sudan. She calls for an immediate end to the fighting.
We strongly encourage the two countries to settle their disputes through agreements on the basis of good neighbourliness and mutual respect, particularly for each other’s territorial integrity.
The implementation of the previous agreements on the establishment of a demilitarized and internationally monitored border area, as well as the demarcation of undisputed border areas, must be continued on an urgent basis to enable the current tensions to be resolved politically.
There must be full cooperation with the United Nations to that end.
The meeting scheduled to take place soon between the presidents of the two states, following the visit to Khartoum by a high-level delegation from South Sudan on 23 March, must be able to go ahead despite the recent clashes. It will be a sign of the willingness of each party to resolve the current tensions. (…)./.
