President Hollande Visits D-Day Memorial
President Hollande paid a visit to the D-Day memorial in Caen, France, on Wednesday, as part of official activities marking the 68th anniversary of the Allied landing on the beaches of Normandy that would free France from occupation and help bring about the end of the Second World War.
In a speech delivered at the event, President Hollande shared words of appreciation, with particular mention of the role U.S. forces played in the huge-scale offensive.
"I would like to express again today, 68 years later, France’s gratitude to those who made liberation possible. The United States accepted the sacrifice of so very many of their sons. France will never forget it."
