France/US/international economic situation/Syria

Paris, August 1, 2012

President Hollande spoke on the phone this afternoon to Mr Barack Obama, President of the United States.

They discussed in depth the international economic situation and expressed their common interest in European growth and Euro Area stability, both necessary for the recovery of global economic activity.

The Head of State stressed France’s determination to implement, with her European Union partners, the decisions taken by the European Council of 28 and 29 June 2012. The mechanisms and instruments provided for on that occasion must be able to be used as soon as possible.

They also talked about the serious situation in Syria. They highlighted the urgent need to try to bring about a political transition to end the unacceptable violence to which the Syrian people are victim./.
