M. François Hollande, President of the French Republic, had a meeting with Mr Choummaly Sayasone, President of Laos, at Ho Kham Palace, Vientiane, on 5 November 2012, before the opening of the summit bringing together the states of the Asian continent and those of the European Union (ASEM).
The Laotian President welcomed this visit, the first by a French president.
President Hollande saluted Laos’ ASEM presidency.
The two heads of state welcomed the excellent relations between Laos and France, which have continued to the present day. President Sayasone paid tribute to the assistance France has provided for his country’s development and the decisive role French businesses play in the growth of the economy and in the diversification of Laos’ productive sectors.
They were pleased with the constantly increasing and varied economic and trade exchanges and French investment in Laos.
The French President confirmed that the partnership for development was a priority objective of France’s commitment to Laos./.
