There are reports of a possible decision by the Israeli government to authorize the construction of 3,000 homes in the settlements, including in a new settlement area in the West Bank, east of Jerusalem.

If confirmed, this decision would be grave. It would be a serious obstacle to the two-state solution, jeopardizing the territorial contiguity of a future Palestinian state. It would undermine the trust necessary for the resumption of dialogue.

I call on the Israeli authorities to refrain from any decision to this effect and clearly express their desire to resume the negotiations./.
