On 4 August 2016, Mme Ségolène Royal, President of COP21, and Mr Salaheddine Mezouar, future president of COP22, sent a letter to all the governments which signed the Paris Agreement on the climate.
A special meeting will be held in New York on 21 September during the United Nations General Assembly, on the initiative of Ban Ki-moon and Ségolène Royal. It will enable those parties which have completed their ratification processes to deposit their instruments.
The Paris Agreement on the climate will come into force 30 days after the instruments of ratification, acceptance, approval or accession have been deposited by 55 countries accounting for 55% of global emissions.
